Missouri S&T’s Tamara McCaskill (Edwardsville, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. McCaskill, a junior forward for the Miners, led her team to wins over Quincy and SIU Edwardsville last week.
In S&T’s 75-73 win over visiting Quincy on Thursday, McCaskill scored 16 of her game-high 19 points in the second half leading the Miners back from a three-point halftime deficit. McCaskill finished 7-for-11 (.636) from the field, 2-fo-3 (.667) from behind the three-point line and had five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
She returned on Saturday to score a game-high 20 points in S&T’s 72-48 win over SIU Edwardsville. McCaskill was 8-for-11 (.727) from the field, 2-for-4 (.500) from the three-point line and had five rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot.
For the week, McCaskill averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals, a steal and blocked shot per game. She shot 68.2 percent from the field, 57.1 percent from the three-point line and was 5-for-6 (.833) from the free throw line.
She is averaging 15.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game this season for the Miners.
S&T (18-4, 12-3) has won three straight games and 13 of its last 15 contests. The Miners will secure a GLVC Tournament berth with a victory at Rockhurst on Thursday.
