University of Indianapolis freshman running back Al McKeller and junior linebacker Cole Sigmund, along with Missouri S&T sophomore placekicker Ben Styron, have garnered the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors for the 2017 football season, it was announced by the league office Monday.

Team Result: 24-20 win vs. No. 2 Grand Valley State
  • Led all players with 10 total tackles, including two for a loss
  • Spearheaded effort that held the Lakers, a team that averaged 40.3 ppg in 2016, to just 20 points – their lowest total since October 2014
  • Guided a defense that held GVSU scoreless for more than 42 game minutes during one stretch 
  • Anchored a unit that limited 2016 NCAA DII leading rusher Marty Carter to just 57 rushing yards
  • Earns his first Defensive Player of the Week award
