University of Southern Indiana senior James Cecil and junior Hope Jones have been named the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Runners of the Week for the 2017 men’s and women’s cross country season, it was announced by the Conference office on Wednesday.

Team Result: 2^nd/11 Teams, 47 points, Appalachian State Covered Bridge Open (Boone, N.C.)

• Placed fourth on the muddy, rain-soaked 8,000-meters course in 26 minutes, 13.94 seconds
• Marked the first time he had paced USI
• Led Screaming Eagles to a narrow four-point runner-up finish behind Division I Florida State
• Earns his first GLVC Runner of the Week award
