The University of Southern Indiana’s Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Ind.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Cooksey, a senior runner for the Eagles, posted an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying time in the 5,000 meters at the DePauw Indoor Classic on Saturday.
She finished the race in a time of 17:05.05 to place first and outdistanced the second-place runner by 58 seconds.
Her time is currently third on the NCAA Division II performance list. Cooksey also has the top time in the GLVC in the 3,000 meter run and 5,000 meter run this season.
Cooksey earned 10 points for the Eagles at the DePauw Indoor Classic, helping them to a 12th-place finish in the 22-team field.
USI will next compete in the Eastern Illinois University Friday Night Special on Feb. 22.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Kelsey Love, SIU Edwardsville’s Juliet Alrich and UIndy’s Andrea Cook.
