Quincy University’s Cameron Murkey (St. Louis, Mo.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The senior forward led the Hawks to a pair of GLVC victories allowing Quincy to earn a berth into the upcoming GLVC Tournament.

 

Murkey averaged 23.5 points per game to pace the Hawks to an 88-83 win over visiting Rockhurst on Thursday and to an 84-72 win over seventh-ranked Drury on Saturday.

 

The wins pushed the Hawks’ winning streak to six games and helped them secure the No. 3 seed in the GLVC West Division.

 

In the win over Rockhurst, Murkey scored a career-high 26 points and pulled down five rebounds. He was 11-for-15 (.733) from the field and canned 4-of-7 (.571) three-point attempts.

 

He returned against Drury to net a game-high 21 points, including 19 points in the first half. Murkey hit all five of his three-point attempts in the ballgame and finished 8-for-10 (.800) from the field. He also added five rebounds, an assist and steal.

 

He shot 76 percent from the field in the two contests and was 9-for-12 (.750) from the three-point line.

 

Murkey is averaging 13.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game this season for the Hawks.

 

Quincy (15-12, 9-10) will visit the No. 2 seed in the East, Kentucky Wesleyan, in Owensboro, Kentucky on Tuesday night. The GLVC quarterfinal contest will begin at 7 p.m. CT.
