Lewis’ Courtney Lyons (San Pedro, Calif.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
SIUE (10-2) will look to ride its current four-game winning streak when it heads to the Rebel Spring Games on Friday.
Lyons, a junior pitcher for the Flyers, was dominant in two starts over the weekend. She picked up a pair of shutout victories and ran her season record to 4-2.
Lyons tossed a four-hit shutout to help the Flyers top West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, 2-0. She struck out seven in the victory, while walking five in seven innings of work.
She turned in a real gem in Lewis’ 2-0 win over Minnesota State Moorhead on Sunday. Lyons posted a one-hit shutout, walked just one batter and struck out 15 in the decision. The 15 strikeouts are a career-record for Lyons and the most by a Lewis pitcher since at least 1997.
Lyons now boasts a 1.05 earned run average this season and has struck out 44 in 33.1 innings of work.
Lewis is 4-0 at the Rebel Spring Games and has won five straight overall. The Flyers are now 6-6 this season and will return to action on Wednesday.
Other top performers in GLVC last week included Rockhurst's Emily Dye and SIU Edwardsville’s Kaitlin Colosimo.
