Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Lindsay Longfellow (Washington, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week.
Longfellow, a junior second baseman for the Cougars, helped SIUE earn four wins at the Cougar Classic over the weekend. SIUE picked up two wins over Washburn and defeated 11th-ranked Emporia State, 9-2, and 20th-ranked Wayne State, 5-0.
Longfellow hit .636 in the four contests and posted four RBIs, three runs, and a total of seven hits.
She was 2-for-5 in wins over Wayne State and Washburn on Saturday, and then returned in Sunday’s contests against Emporia State and Washburn to go 6-for-7 at the plate with three runs, two RBIs and a home run.
Longfellow went 3-for-3 against Emporia State and posted a home run and two RBIs in the impressive win.
She is hitting .419 in 12 games this season with six runs, nine RBIs and three homeruns.
SIUE (10-2) will look to ride its current four-game winning streak when it heads to the Rebel Spring Games on Friday.
Other top performers in GLVC last week included Lewis’ Carla Musillo, Missouri-St. Louis’ Casey Dierkes, Rockhurst’s Jessi Harris, Southern Indiana’s Brittany DeWeese and UIndy’s Jenny Swanson.
