INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky University’s Ryan Schmidt (Decatur, Ind.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Schmidt, a sophomore pitcher for the Norse, helped NKU take two of three at Drury in GLVC action over the weekend by tossing a complete-game gem on Sunday afternoon.

NKU topped Drury 1-0 in the day’s first game behind Schmidt’s efforts. He allowed just two hits and held the Panthers scoreless over seven innings.

Schmidt struck out six and walked just two, holding Drury’s hitters to a .095 batting average on the afternoon.

He is now 1-0 on the year in four appearances and boasts a 1.12 earned run average. Schmidt has struck out 10 in 24 innings pitched this season.

NKU is now 5-9 overall this season and 2-1 in league action. The Norse, who has won four of their last five games, will host UC-Clermont on Wednesday.

Other top performers in GLVC last week included John Guzzo, Quincy’s Jordan Backes, Saint Joseph’s Blaine Cravens and Southern Indiana’s Jeremy Kehrt.
