INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s Meagan Shimkus (Frankfort, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.

  

Shimkus, a senior pitcher for the Rangers, collected a pair of wins over Top 25 programs last week.

 

She delivered a two-hit complete-game shutout in UW-Parkside’s 1-0 win over 18th-ranked Minnesota State-Mankato on Thursday. Shimkus struck out seven and walked just three in the win.

 

Shimkus returned on Friday to help the Rangers collect a 1-0 win over fifth-ranked Lock Haven. She tossed nine scoreless innings in the victory, allowed just three hits and struck out 12 hitters.

 

On the week, Shimkus was 2-1 with a 0.60 earned run average and 25 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched. She also allowed just 10 hits in three starts.

 

UW-Parkside (7-4) will conclude its spring break trip in Kissimmee, Florida on Tuesday with contests against Nebraska-Omaha and Concordia.

 

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Lewis’ Courtney Lyons, Missouri-St. Louis’ Allyson DeFosset, Northern Kentucky’s April Ehlers, Quincy’s Torie Bunzell, Rockhurst’s Emily Dye and Southern Indiana’s Kambria Current.
