INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis University’s Mallory Paine (Carol Stream, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week.
Paine, a senior catcher for the Flyers, helped Lewis get off to a strong start in the GLVC over the weekend by pacing her team to a pair of upset victories over No. 3 SIU Edwardsville on Sunday.
In Lewis’ 2-1, 11-inning victory in the first game on Sunday, Paine provided the dramatics by hitting a one-out game-winning home run in the top of the eleventh inning. She finished the game 2-for-5 with a double, home run, run scored and RBI. Paine also threw out two SIUE baserunners in the win.
She returned in Lewis’ 4-2 win in the day’s second game to go 3-for-4 with a run and RBI.
In the two games, she was 5-for-9 (.556) with two RBIs, two runs scored, a double and home run.
Paine is hitting .333 with 10 RBIs, four doubles and a home run.
Lewis (12-8, 2-0) has won five of its last six games and will host St.Francis on Wednesday.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Missouri-St. Louis’ Megan Riggs, Northern Kentucky’s Sam Del Vecchio, Quincy’s Mary Wiedman, Southern Indiana’s Sara Loete and UW-Parkside’s Lisa Casey.
