Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Erika Taylor (Boonville, Ind.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Taylor, a freshman pitcher for the 13th-ranked Cougars, tossed a gem and helped SIU Edwardsville earn a split at S&T on Saturday afternoon.
SIU Edwardsville won the nightcap, 4-0, behind Taylor’s complete-game shutout. She allowed just two hits over the course of seven innings and struck out 13 in the victory. Taylor surrendered just three walks and held the Miners hitless until the sixth inning.
She is now 3-3 on the year with a 3.33 earned run average. Taylor has struck out 51 batters in 48.1 innings of work this season.
SIU Edwardsville (19-7, 1-3 GLVC) snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory. The Cougars will next visit Lincoln on Tuesday.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Lewis’ Diana Pickrum, Missouri S&T’s Jen O’Hara, Rockhurst’s Emily Dye and UIndy’s Meagan Gutierrez.
