Northern Kentucky University’s Jake Shaffer (Athol, Mass.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week.

 

Shaffer, a junior centerfielder for the Norse, helped Northern Kentucky take three of four games at Missouri S&T over the weekend.

 

He was 10-for-15 (.667) at the plate in the four contests and seven of his ten hits were for extra bases. Shaffer finished the weekend with seven doubles, nine runs scored and two RBIs. He had a 1.113 slugging percentage during the series and also added a stolen base.

 

In Northern Kentucky’s 15-3 win in the series opener, Shaffer was 5-for-5 with four runs scored, two doubles and two RBIs. He was also perfect in the series finale, a 12-5 Norse win, as he finished the game 3-for-3 with four runs scored and three doubles.

 

Shaffer is hitting .369 on the season with a team-best 10 doubles and 16 runs scored. He also has 11 RBIs and a .569 slugging percentage.

 

Northern Kentucky (8-10) has won five of its last six games and currently sits in third-place in the GLVC East Division with a 5-2 record. The Norse will face Findlay today and Shawnee State at home on Wednesday.

 

Other top performers in GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Patrick Brady, Drury’s Joe Rohlfing, Missouri-St. Louis’ Ryan Ayers, Missouri S&T’s Thomas McCormick, Quincy’s Chris Scoggins , Rockhurst’s Steve Braun, Saint Joseph’s Matt Wille, SIU Edwardsville’s Michael Hopkins, Southern Indiana’s Matt Pleiss and UIndy’s Justin Russell.
