Drury University’s Jaime Villa Zapatero (Moore, Okla.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Villa Zapatero, a freshman for the Panthers, earned a second-place finish in the 1,500-meter run at the PSU/Wendy’s Invite in Pittsburg, Kansas on Saturday.

He posted a time of 3:58.49 in the event and finished less than a second off the pace established by event-winner Mujahi Hassaballa.

Villa Zapatero was coming off a fourth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run at the Hendrix College Invitational two weeks ago in which he posted a time of 3:58.48 in his first collegiate track meet.

Drury is in its first season sponsoring outdoor track and field and Villa Zapatero is the first Panther to earn GLVC Track Athlete of the Week honors.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Northern Kentucky’s Drew Harris.
