Northern Kentucky University’s Julianne Hoekzema (Fairfield, Ohio) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Hoekzema, a junior distance runner for the Norse, notched a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time in the 5,000-meter run at the University of Cincinnati Earlybird Relays on Saturday afternoon.
In frigid conditions, Hoekzema posted a time of 17:42.94 which was an outdoor track and field personal-best. Her effort was good for fifth place in the event.
She was the top finishing Division II athlete in the event and finished just 32 seconds behind winner Crystina Martinez’ (IPFW).
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Tia Young.
