Missouri S&T’s Tamara McCaskill (Edwardsville, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.

McCaskill, a sophomore for the Miners, tied the S&T school record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II outdoor track and field national championship in the high jump over the weekend at the Alabama Relays.

She posted a mark of 1.70 meters in the event, exceeding the provisional minimum of 1.68 meters, to take second-place behind South Alabama’s Nicole Knox.

McCaskill, also a member of the S&T women’s basketball team, only recently began training for the high jump this outdoor season.

The Miners will next compete in the Missouri State Big Bear Invitational on Saturday.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Lewis’ Christine Kustra, SIU Edwardsville’s Sydney Winslow and UIndy’s Amy Schmitz.
