Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Cody Litteken (St. Jacob, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Litteken, a senior pitcher for the Cougars, shut down host Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday to help SIUE pick up a four-game sweep over the Tritons in GLVC play.

He tossed a seven-inning, complete-game shutout against the Tritons and finished with five strikeouts in the nightcap of Saturday’s doubleheader. Litteken surrendered just four hits in the outing and walked just two UMSL hitters.

With the strong effort, Litteken lowered his team-leading earned run average to 2.40. He is now 3-2 overall this season and has two complete-games in seven appearances on the year.

SIUE (15-13) is now 9-7 in the GLVC this season and has moved into sole possession of second-place in the GLVC West Division. The Cougars will next visit Indiana State on Tuesday.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Nate Nevin, Kentucky Wesleyan’s Josh Schultze, Northern Kentucky’s Eric Braeckel, Rockhurst’s Ryan Morgan, Saint Joseph’s Chris Chojnowski, Southern Indiana’s  Shaun Larsen and UIndy’s  Travis Kempton.
