Northern Kentucky University’s Dave Middendorf (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Middendorf, a freshman pitcher for the Norse, tossed a one-hit shutout against visiting UIndy on Sunday afternoon helping his team earn a 3-1 advantage in the weekend series.
The Norse won the contest 6-0 and Middendorf went all nine innings and struck out 11 hitters in the outing. He surrendered the lone hit in the eighth inning and allowed just two baserunners to reach second base on the day.
Middendorf is now 4-3 on the season and has a 2.66 earned run average, the second-best on the team. He has struck out 36 in 40.2 innings of work on the year.
Northern Kentucky is now 24-14 overall and 15-4 in the GLVC. The Norse have won 13 of their last 14 games and will visit Southern Indiana in a non-conference game on Wednesday.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Lewis’ Mike Smith, Quincy’s Christopher Conner, Saint Joseph’s Blaine Cravens, SIU Edwardsville’s Andrew Beatty, Southern Indiana’s Jeremy Kehrt and UIndy’s Andrew Werner.
