The University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s Meagan Shimkus (Frankfort, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Shimkus, a senior pitcher for the Rangers, made an appearance in all six games for UW-Parkside last week and helped her team to a 5-1 record in those contests.
She went 3-0 on the week with one save, a 0.91 ERA, and 34 strikeouts in 30.2 innings of work. She allowed just four earned runs in the six appearances.
Shimkus went the distance and struck out nine in UW-Parkside’s 11-inning, 6-3 win against Quincy on Wednesday. She returned in the nightcap to strike out five in 1.2 innings to collect the save in the Rangers’ 9-7 win.
In Sunday’s 8-2 win over Southern Indiana, Shimkus went all seven innings and struck out eight, while allowing just one earned run.
UW-Parkside shutout Kentucky Wesleyan on Monday, 6-0, and Shimkus struck out seven and allowed just three hits in the complete game.
On the year, she is 10-5 with a 1.82 ERA. Shimkus has 137 strikeouts in 119 innings of work.
UW-Parkside is 21-12 overall and 8-6 in the GLVC this season. The Rangers will travel to Lewis on Wednesday.
