The University of Indianapolis’ Amy Schmitz (Normal, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.

Schmitz, a senior for the Greyhounds, helped UIndy to the 2008 Indiana Intercollegiates title over the weekend and for her efforts was named the meet’s Female Field Athlete of the Year.

At the meet, Schmitz captured first place in two events. She won the shot put with a throw of 13.06 meters and won the hammer throw with a mark of 49.11 meters.

Schmitz also posted a third-place finish in the discus with a mark of 41.35 meters.

UIndy will next compete at the Cardinal Invite in Louisville on Saturday.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Kimberly Shigeno and UIndy’s Saidat Sanuth.
