Drury University’s Jaime Villa Zapatero (Moore, Okla.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Villa Zapatero, a freshman runner for the Panthers, posted a solid effort in windy and rainy conditions at the Kansas Relays over the weekend.
He notched a personal-best and NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time in the 5,000 meters and won the event by finishing in 14:38.15.
His effort was nearly two seconds better than the second-place finisher as he outkicked several runners in the final 60 seconds of his final lap.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Zach Pittman, SIU Edwardsville’s Jeremy Puckett and UIndy’s Elliott Cohee.
