Northern Kentucky University’s Julianne Hoekzema (Fairfield, Ohio) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

 

Hoekzema, a junior distance runner for the Norse, competed in the highly acclaimed 50th Mt. SAC Relay Meet in Walnut, Calif. over the weekend. She placed 13th in the 10,000-meter run at the challenging event.

 

Hoekzema posted a time of 36:16.86 at the meet which eclipses the previous Northern Kentucky school record in the 10,000-meter run by 2:42. In addition, the effort is a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time and places her first in the GLVC this season.

 

Her time also places her in the top ten in the nation this year.

  

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Katie Hickey and SIU Edwardsville’s Shelinda Brackett.
