INDIANAPOLIS – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Deserea Brown (Flossmoor, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Brown, a junior sprinter for the Cougars, broke two school records at the SIUE Twilight over the weekend.

She posted a NCAA Division II automatic qualifying time of 58.53 to win the 400-meter hurdles and placed second in the 100-meter hurdles with a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time of 14.22.

Brown, who had previously held the school record in each event, currently boasts the top time in the nation in the 400-meter hurdles and ranks first in the GLVC and 11th in the nation in the 100-meter hurdles.

SIUE will return to action at the GLVC Outdoor Championships on May 2-3. The Cougars, defending men and women champions, will host the event this year.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Kristen Geiger and UIndy’s LeAnn Sarka.
