The University of Missouri-St. Louis’ Elizabeth Cook is the Baden/Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. The sophomore outside hitter averaged 3.76 kills, 3.00 digs and 4.00 points per game to lead the Tritons to a 3-1 start to their 2008 campaign at the ‘Middle of Everything’ Classic in Rolla, Mo.
Cook opened the season by posting 17 kills and 17 digs in UMSL’s 3-2 loss to third-ranked Truman State on Friday. She finished the game with a .293 attack percentage and added two blocks.
UMSL rebounded from the close defeat with a 3-1 win over North Alabama. Cook posted 15 kills, a .314 hitting percentage and 13 digs.
On Saturday, UMSL defeated St. Cloud State, 3-1, and topped Missouri Western, 3-1. Cook chipped in 17 kills and seven digs against St. Cloud St. and added 15 kills and 14 digs against Missouri Western.
Cook finished the weekend with 64 kills, 51 digs, three service aces and two blocks. Her efforts helped the Tritons (3-1) to their best start since the 2004 season.
Missouri-St. Louis will host Illinois-Springfield on Wednesday and the UMSL Tournament this weekend.
