Northern Kentucky University’s Steven Beattie is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. The junior forward guided the Norse to a pair of victories over the weekend and collected four goals in the process.
NKU opened the season on the road at West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday and was able to pull out a 2-1 win in double overtime. Beattie provided the difference in the contest, nailing the game-winner in the 105th minute on a blast from 35 yards out.
He returned on Sunday to help the Norse claim a decisive 9-0 victory against visiting Charleston. Beattie tallied three goals on the afternoon and again claimed the game-winning score, this time in the 22nd minute of the contest. In addition to his hat-trick on the day, Beattie also added a second-half assist.
For the week, Beattie collected nine points with four goals, including both game-winning scores, and an assist. He now leads the club in both goals and points on the year.
The third-ranked Norse (2-0) will return to action this weekend with home matches against Carson-Newman and Findlay.
