Lewis University’s Andy Lepkowski is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. The sophomore helped lift the Flyers to a second-place finish at the Elmhurst College Early Bird Invitational on Friday. Lepkowski covered the 6,000 meter course in 19:21.
Lepkowski placed second overall and helped the Flyers finish with 79 points in the five-team meet. His time was good for tenth among all GLVC runners after the first week of competition.
This was the Flyers season opener. Last year the Flyers placed fourth in the GLVC championship meet and as a freshman, Lepkowski finished 18th at the event.
The Flyers will return to racing Sept. 12 at the Bradley Open in Peoria, Ill.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Southern Indiana’s freshman Dustin Emerick who leads the conference with his 6,000 meter time of 18:53.
