The University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s Shannon Becker is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. The freshman forward guided the 23rd-ranked Rangers to a pair of wins last week.
UW-Parkside topped Minnesota-Crookston on Monday, 7-0, and Becker had a hand in four of the Rangers’ seven goals on the day. She posted her first career hat trick by scoring in the fourth, 61st and 89th minute in the victory. Her tally in the fourth minute proved to be the game-winner. In addition, Becker assisted on one of Brittany Kaim’s two goals in the contest.
In UW-Parkside’s 4-0 win against visiting Upper Iowa on Sunday, Becker assisted on Meredith Novak’s game-winning goal in the 18th minute. She also assisted on Novak’s second goal of the match in the 63rd minute.
Becker finished the week with nine points on three goals and two assists. She now has four goals and four assists on the year to lead her team and the league.
UW-Parkside (4-0) has outscored its first four opponents 18-2. The Rangers will open the conference-portion of their schedule against 14th-ranked Northern Kentucky and Indianapolis at home this weekend.
