The University of Indianapolis’ Diego Lemus is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. The junior forward provided the game-winning goal in the Greyhounds’ 3-2 overtime victory against ninth-ranked Lewis on Friday night and helped his squad complete a weekend sweep with a 5-1 victory over Quincy on Sunday.

Lemus came off the bench in the Lewis contest to net the game-winning goal in the 93rd minute. It was his first goal of the season and allowed UIndy to rebound after losing a 2-0 advantage.

In Sunday’s 5-1 win over visiting Quincy, Lemus posted a goal and assisted on two others. He assisted on Andrew Jones’ goal in the 37th minute and on Josiah Mullen’s goal in the 80th minute. Lemus posted his second goal of the year just forty seconds later off a short cross in front of goal by Kurt Grandin.

On the week, Lemus posted two goals and had two assists, marking all six points he has accumulated on the year. He is currently third on the team in goals scored and tied for second on the squad with two assists.

UIndy moved into sole possession of fourth-place in the GLVC with the victories. The Greyhounds are 2-0-2 in league play and 3-2-2 overall.

They will travel to Missouri S&T and Drury this weekend.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included: Drury’s Steve Wilzewski, Lewis’ Nestor Hernandez, Northern Kentucky’s Steven Beattie, Rockhurst’s Chad Becker, Southern Indiana’s Simon Rawnsley and UW-Parkside’s Niklas Boedts.
