University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s Jessica Monson (formerly Lamp) has been selected as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Runner of the Week. The senior runner won the Midwest Open with a blazing 5,000-meter time of 17:44. She was able to lead the race the entire way and finish 21 seconds ahead of the second-place runner.
Monson was able to race alone and pull off nice, even splits, despite the 80- degree, humid weather. She defeated 222 runners and earned the third best time in UW-Parkside history. She also holds the second fastest time of 17:40, posted last season. Her time currently leads the GLVC this season in the 5,000-meters.
The Rangers placed three runners in the top 21 against a competitive field. They accumulated 116 points and claimed third place out of 17 teams.
The Rangers will be back in action at the Augustana Invite in Rock Island, Illinois on Friday.
Other top performers in the GLVC this week include Southern Indiana’s Adrienne Curtis, Kathryn Hague from Lewis, Tia Young from Drury, Amy Hamilton of Indianapolis, and Meghan Shegena from Bellarmine.
