Rockhurst University’s Chad Becker is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. The senior goalkeeper posted three shutouts last week to help the Hawks move into sole possession of first-place in the GLVC standings.
On Wednesday, Becker notched five saves in Rockhurst’s 1-0 non-conference victory against Newman.
He returned on Friday to post four more saves as the Hawks upended visiting Bellarmine 2-0.
Becker’s week culminated on Sunday afternoon as he led the Hawks’ defensive efforts in a scoreless tie with top-ranked Northern Kentucky. In the tie, Becker turned away the only shot on goal surrendered by his team.
For the week, Becker posted 10 saves and did not allow a goal in 290 minutes of action.
He now leads the league with seven shutouts, a 0.240 goals against average and a 0.913 save percentage. Becker has allowed just two goals in eight matches this season and has posted 26 career shutouts for Rockhurst.
The 20th-ranked Hawks improved to 7-0-1 and to 4-0-1 in the GLVC, good for first-place in the league standings. Becker and the Hawks have not allowed a goal in six straight matches and will look to extend the streak against Truman State and Drury this weekend.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included: Drury’s Micah Whorton, Lewis’ Anthony Szymel, Saint Joseph’s Nick Filloon, Southern Indiana’s Dan Dormeier and UIndy’s Jon Walker.
