Indianapolis, Ind. – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Mallory Clements (Mt. Pulaski, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference women’s volleyball Player of the Week. The sophomore setter guided the Cougars to four wins at the season-opening University of North Alabama Classic on Aug. 25-26.
Clements averaged 11.31 assists, 2.85 kills, 1.08 service aces and 3.62 digs per game in the four contests. She helped lead the Cougars to straight-game wins over Albany State (30-10, 30-10, 30-19), the University of Alabama-Huntsville (30-17, 30-18, 30-23) and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (30-17, 30-23, 30-17).
She capped the weekend with a triple-double (15 kills, 44 assists, and 21 digs) in SIU Edwardsville’s 32-30, 18-30, 30-28, 30-26 win over No. 9 North Alabama. Against the Lions, Clements posted a .324 hitting percentage and added two blocks.
She posted a .367 hitting percentage during the tournament and was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts. Clements had 39 assists, four service aces, 10 kills and a .533 hitting percentage against Albany State. She added 26 assists against Alabama-Huntsville and collected 38 assists, six service aces, six kills and a .385 hitting percentage against Texas-Permian Basin.
SIU Edwardsville, the 2005 GLVC Champion, is 4-0 on the season.
