Northern Kentucky University’s Steven Beattie (Skerries, Ireland/Colaiste Ide College) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. The sophomore forward guided the Norse to a pair of victories in conference play.
On Friday, Beattie assisted Braden Bishop in the game-winning goal against Missouri-St. Louis. Beattie later came back and buried a shot on the right side for an insurance goal in the 82nd minute. The Norse claimed the victory over the Tritons, 3-0.
Beattie returned on Sunday with a two-on-one with his teammate Bishop to score the game’s first goal in the fifth minute. Beattie later finished NKU’s scoring and posted a goal after he took a pass from Tony Ray in the 69th minute. NKU defeated the Screaming Eagles from Southern Indiana 5-1.
For the week, Beattie assisted the Norse to a two game victory against GLVC competition. NKU(10-1-1, 6-1-1 GLVC) will face Ashland on the road on Wednesday and travel to Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included: Bellarmine’s Brad Barraclough, Lewis’ Cory Mastey, Rockhurst’s Kyle Samuelson, Quincy’s Corey Eatherton, and Drury’s Micah Whorton.
