Bellarmine University’s Taylor Kopple (Louisville, Ky.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The senior forward turned in a tremendous all-around performance in the Knights’ victory over visiting Saginaw Valley State on Saturday.

 

In the Knights’ 91-67 win over the Cardinals, Kopple poured in a game-high 27 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to post her second double-double of the season.

 

She finished the contest 11-for-17 (.647) from the field and 4-for-5 (.800) from the free-throw line. She also added three steals, two assists and a blocked shot in just 22 minutes on the floor.

 

Kopple is second in the GLVC in scoring this season, averaging 18.3 points per contest. She is posting 9.5 rebounds per game to rank third in the league. In addition, she is shooting 55.4 percent from the field through four games to rank eighth in the GLVC.

 

Her efforts have helped the Knights open the 2008-09 campaign with a 4-0 record. Bellarmine will begin its GLVC schedule at Saint Joseph’s and Indianapolis this weekend.

 

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Indianapolis’ Jessica Canary, Kentucky Wesleyan’s Candace Garrett, Lewis’ Jenny Turpel, Northern Kentucky’s Jessie Slack, Quincy’s Jessica Keller, Rockhurst’s Amy Hake and Southern Indiana’s Amie Newhart.
