University of Southern Indiana’s Marvin Gray (Freeport, Bahamas) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The junior guard led the Eagles to three victories and led the Bill Joergens Memorial Tournament in scoring.

 

Gray started off the week scoring 13 points over Missouri Baptist, 83-39. He went four-of-four from the field, had four assists and four steals.  

 

Gray opened the tournament with 14 points topping King, 87-64. He had eight assists and two steals in the victory.

 

The junior guard saved his best for last against the #3 Florida Southern College. He led the Eagles to an upset win with 26 points. Gray scored 20 of those points during the first 20 minutes. He sank two free throws with three seconds to play to claim their victory, 89-88. 

 

Gray was 11-of-13 from the field, two-of three beyond the arc, and two of three from the line. For the week, Gray averaged 17.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 2.3 steals per game.

 

The Eagles (7-2) will head north to open conference play against Lewis on Thursday and UW-Parkside on Saturday.

 

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Chartrael Hall, Kentucky Wesleyan’s Maros Zuffa, Rockhurst’s Alden Smith, Missouri-St. Louis’ Jeremy Brown, Missouri S&T’s Aaron Redecker, Saint Joseph’s Austin Peebles,  Lewis’ Dennis Thomas, UW-Parkside’s DaMarcus Bell, and Drury’s Dominique Long.
