University of Southern Indiana’s Brandon Russ (Cincinnati, Ohio) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The junior forward paced the Eagles in road victories at Lewis and at UW-Parkside last week.

 

In the two contests, Russ averaged 14.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting at an 80 percent clip.

 

USI topped host Lewis on Thursday, 73-67, as Russ poured in 15 points and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds. He was nearly perfect from the field, converting 7-of-9 field goal attempts. Russ also added a blocked shot and steal in the contest.

 

On Saturday, the Eagles completed the weekend sweep with an 83-58 win over host UW-Parkside. Russ posted 14 points in the victory and finished the night 5-of-6 from the field. He also added an assist and rebound in the victory.

 

The Eagles are now 9-2 overall and 2-0 in league play. Russ is second on the team with 13.3 points per contest this year and has shot 68.3 percent from the field which ranks him third in the league. He has also contributed 5.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.

 

Southern Indiana will next host Temple Baptist on Saturday.

 

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Justin Benedetti, Drury’s Tim Brown, Lewis’ Brandon Dagans, Quincy’s Justin Brock, Rockhurst’s Aaron Hill and Saint Joseph’s Austin Peebles.
