Northern Kentucky University’s Jessie Slack (Mt. Perry, Ohio) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The senior guard helped the top-ranked Norse collect a come-from-behind victory at rival Indianapolis and a win at NCAA Division I foe SIU Edwardsville last week.

 

In NKU’s 56-54 win over UIndy on Thursday, Slack netted 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Norse rallied from a late nine-point deficit. Slack was 7-for-17 (.412) from the field and converted 3-of-6 (.500) three-point attempts in the win. She also chipped in four steals and a pair of assists.

 

Slack returned on Saturday to post her first double-double of the season. In the 61-48 win over the Cougars, Slack netted a game-high 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. She also had three steals, two assists and a blocked shot in the victory.

 

On the week, Slack averaged 18.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game. She was 13-for-32 (.406) from the field, 5-for-9 (.556) from the three-point line and a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line.

 

This season, Slack is averaging 20.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while shooting at a 55.0 percent clip. She is also converting 62.5 percent of her three-point attempts. Slack leads the league in scoring and three-point field goal percentage and ranks fourth in rebounds and seventh in steals per game (2.25).

 

The Norse have opened their 2008-09 campaign with a perfect 4-0 mark. NKU, the defending NCAA Division II national champion, will face Georgetown College, UNC-Pembroke and Carson-Newman at home this week.
