Drury University sophomore Larissa Karl has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in the sport of women’s tennis, the Conference announced Tuesday.
Karl went 2-0 in both doubles and singles action over the weekend, helping the 30th-ranked Panthers to a 7-2 GLVC victory past Lewis on Thursday before topping non-league foe Newman 8-1 Sunday.
Starting against Lewis with an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles with partner Hadeil Ali, the sophomore went on to defeat Jill Wetmore 6-4, 7-6 at No. 4 singles. Two days later, Karl extended her win streak with an 8-3 result with Ali against Newman’s No. 2 doubles pair, which she followed up with a 6-3, 6-2 No. 4 singles victory over Kateryna Stoianova to remain a perfect 6-0 in singles this season.
This is the Frankfurt am Main, Germany, native’s first career weekly honor, and she is the first Panther chosen since Ali was the final honoree of 2015 on April 14.
