Indianapolis, Ind. – Northern Kentucky University’s Liz Holmes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. The junior middle hitter guided the Norse to a pair of victories last week and collected her 1,000th career kill in the process.
Holmes notched 15 kills in the Norse’s 3-0 (30-24, 30-26, 30-21) win over Georgetown College on Sept. 14. She finished the contest with a hitting percentage of .500, one assist, two service aces, eight digs and two blocks. Included in her 15 kills against the 16th-ranked team in NAIA, was her 1,000th career kill. Holmes became just the 11th player in Northern Kentucky history to reach the milestone.
She returned on Sept. 16 to help the Norse defeat visiting Wheeling Jesuit 3-0 (30-15, 30-16, 30-15). Holmes recorded nine kills, seven digs, two blocks and a service ace in the victory. She had a hitting percentage of .538.
For the week, Holmes averaged four kills, 2.5 digs, 0.67 blocks per game and finished the week with a hitting percentage of .513.
Holmes is averaging 3.0 kills, 2.4 digs, 0.45 blocks per game this season and is currently ranked sixth in the GLVC with 0.53 service aces per game.
Northern Kentucky improved to 7-7 overall with the wins last week and is currently 2-1 in the GLVC. The Norse return to action at Bellarmine on Sept. 19.
