University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s Amanda Gibson (Boulder Junction, Wis.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The junior guard guided the Rangers to a pair of league wins last week and averaged 22.5 points in the two victories.
In UW-Parksides’ 85-56 win over Saint Joseph’s on Thursday, Gibson scored a team-high 23 points on 8-of-9 (.888) shooting. She was 3-for-3 from behind the three-point line and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. In addition, Gibson also recorded five assists and two rebounds.
She returned on Saturday to help the Rangers cruise to a 77-52 win over visiting Bellarmine. In the win, Gibson scored a game-high 22 points. She posted a double-double early in the second half and finished with 12 assists and two rebounds. She was 10-for-15 (.667) from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
On the week, Gibson averaged 22.5 points, 8.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds. She shot 75 percent (18-24) from the field, 60 percent (3-5) from the three-point line and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
She leads the Rangers and ranks fifth in the conference in scoring this season and is averaging 17.3 points per game. Gibson is also second in the league in assists per game (4.71).
UW-Parkside (17-7, 13-2 GLVC) has won five straight games and six of its last seven games. The Rangers are in first-place in the GLVC East Division and will travel to Northern Kentucky on Wednesday in their only game of the week.
