Lewis University’s Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Turpel, a sophomore forward, led the Flyers to a pair of league wins last week, including a 75-69 overtime decision over Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday.

 

In Lewis’ 61-57 win at Bellarmine on Thursday, Turpel poured in 19 points and collected a career-high 15 rebounds. She also added three steals, two assists and two blocks in the win.

 

Turpel returned on Saturday against Kentucky Wesleyan to post 22 points and grab eight rebounds. She also finished with four assists and a blocked shot.

 

On the week, Turpel averaged 20.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. She also tallied six assists, three blocks and three steals.

 

Lewis (15-10, 11-5 GLVC) has won six straight games and secured a berth to the GLVC Tournament. Turpel has guided the club, averaging 18.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game this season which ranks her second and seventh, respectively, in the league.

 

The Flyers will conclude their regular season at UW-Parkside and Northern Kentucky this weekend.  

 

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Lindsay Ballweg, Indianapolis’ Samantha Meissel, Missouri S&T’s Tamara McCaskill, Quincy’s Jessica Keller and Southern Indiana’s Brittany Neuman.
