Drury University’s Laura McCarthy (Mokane, Mo.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
McCarthy, a sophomore right-handed pitcher for the Panthers, helped Drury secure three wins last week.
She posted a 3-1 record in four appearances with a 2.48 ERA. McCarthy tallied 25 strikeouts in 29 innings of work and allowed eight earned runs.
In Drury’s 6-2 win at Southwest Baptist on Wednesday, McCarthy allowed just two hits and one earned run, while striking out five.
She returned on Friday to surrender just two earned runs and strike out five in Drury’s 4-3 loss to Texas A&M-Kingsville and then rallied the Panthers for a win on Saturday over Henderson State, 3-2, and a win on Sunday against Tarleton State, 6-5. In the two wins, she fanned 15 batters, including 11 punchouts against Henderson State, and allowed just five earned runs.
On the year, McCarthy is 3-2 with a 4.13 ERA. She has struck out 27 in 32 and two-thirds innings of work.
Drury is 5-8 overall this season and will travel to the Pittsburg State/Missouri Southern State Crossover Invite this weekend.
Other top performers in GLVC last week included Indianapolis’ Meagan Gutierrez, Missouri S&T’s Jen O’Hara and Northern Kentucky’s and Chelise Roy.
