University of Southern Indiana’s Jamar Smith is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The junior guard led his team to two big wins to earn the rights to host the GLVC Tourney.

 

Jamar Smith led the Screaming Eagles to a pair of huge wins to claim the GLVC West Division.  On Thursday, Smith started the week with a 28-point performance at Drury to help them claim a win, 76-69.  He hit six from beyond the arc, and scored the Eagles’ seven of the last nine points in the last minute victory.

 

Smith finished the week with a game-high 18 points over the Rockhurst Hawks on Saturday in Kansas City. Smith also added two assists and a steal. The Eagles, who lead the conference in scoring, dominated the Hawks, 76-56.

 

For the week, Smith averaged 23 points, two rebounds, five assists, and 1.5 steals per game.  He also shot 51.6 percent from the field, 55.6 percent from the three point line, and a perfect four of four from the charity stripe.   

 

The Screaming Eagles (25-5, 14-3) will host the GLVC Tournament this week. They will start off the tournament going against the Lewis Flyers at 6:00 PM CT.

 

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Saint Joseph’s Andrew Helmer, Bellarmine’s Chartrael Hall, Drury’s Dusty Allen, Kentucky Wesleyan’s T.J. Smith, Missouri S&T’s Marquis Jones, Quincy’s Billy Baptist, Rockhurst’s Aaron Hill, and Lewis’ Brandon Dagans.
