Northern Kentucky University’s Jessie Slack (Mt. Perry, Ohio) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Slack, a senior guard for the Norse, guided her team to a pair of home victories in GLVC action last week.
In Northern Kentucky’s 71-54 win over Bellarmine on Thursday, Slack scored a career-high 32 points and was 10-for-16 (.625) from the field. She scored 20 points in the second half to help seal the victory. Slack was also 4-for-6 (.667) from behind the three-point line and finished 8-for-9 (.889) from the free throw line. In addition, she added four steals, three rebounds and two assists.
Northern Kentucky topped Lewis on Saturday, 77-56, and Slack again played a pivotal role in the victory. She finished with 17 points on 5-for-8 (.625) shooting and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Slack also added five rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win.
On the week, she averaged 24.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.0 assists per game. Slack, who has now scored in double figures in 32 consecutive games, shot 62.5 percent from the field and was 15-for-16 at the free throw line.
This season, Slack is averaging 16.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. She is among league leaders in five different offensive categories. Slack leads the league and is among national leaders in free throw percentage having made 94 percent of her attempts.
Northern Kentucky locked up the GLVC East Division title with the victories last week and has won eight straight games heading into the GLVC Tournament. The second-ranked Norse (25-2, 16-2 GLVC) will face Bellarmine in the quarterfinals of the GLVC Tournament in Quincy, Illinois on Friday at Noon.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Lindsay Ballweg, Indianapolis’ Samantha Meissel, Lewis’ Jenny Turpel, Missouri S&T’s Tamara McCaskill, Rockhurst’s Ali Fromm and UW-Parkside’s Brittany Hogen.
