Rockhurst University’s Ben Baker (Gladstone, Mo.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Baker, a sophomore pitcher for the Hawks, was impressive on the mound in a Rockhurst sweep over Saginaw Valley on Saturday.

In Rockhurst’s 9-8 win in the day’s first game, Baker recorded a save by shutting down the Cardinals in the bottom half of the seventh. He allowed just one hit and notched a strikeout in the outing.

Baker turned around and went six and two-third shutout innings in the nightcap against the Cardinals, an 8-1 Rockhurst win. He scattered seven hits and struck out seven batters in the appearance and surrendered just one walk.

On the week, Baker was 1-0 with a save and did not allow an earned run. He struck out eight and allowed eight hits in seven and two-thirds innings of work.

Rockhurst (8-4) has won seven of its last eight games and took three of four on the first leg of a southern trip to Winter Haven, Florida.

Other top performers in GLVC last week included Indianapolis’ Cory White, Northern Kentucky’s Matt Winterhalter and Southern Indiana’s Tyler Choate.
