Indianapolis, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana’s Allie Shafer (Plainville, Ind./North Daviess) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. The sophomore helped the Screaming Eagles claim the USI Alumni Opener in Evansville, Ind. on Sept. 1.
Shafer placed first in the 4K race and in the process shattered the course record by 15 seconds. She completed the event in 13:59 eclipsing the course record (14:14) formerly held by 10-time All-American and 3,000 meter national champion Heather Cooksey.
In a four-team meet heavy with talented runners, Shafer guided the Screaming Eagles to the top team finish. Southern Indiana claimed the top three places and finished the meet with a team score of 19.
Southern Indiana returns to action at the Indiana Intercollegiates on Sept. 15 in Terre Haute, Ind.
