University of Southern Indiana’s Alex Thieroff (Greenfield, Ind.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week.

Thieroff, a senior third baseman, helped the Eagles to a 4-1 record last week. His efforts enabled the Eagles to snag the early lead in the GLVC West Division standings as USI took three of four from visiting Drury over the weekend.

In USI’s 3-2 win over Indianapolis on Wednesday in non-conference action, Thieroff notched a run-scoring single and finished 1-for-4 at the plate.

He then returned on the weekend to go 6-for-9 (.667) with five runs, five RBIs, a double, a triple, a home run, four walks and 1.111 slugging percentage in the series with Drury.

The Eagles took the first two games of the series, setting a new school record with their 13th consecutive win. Thieroff was 2-for-4 in the two contests with a run scored.

He was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a run scored in the third game of the series, a 10-6 USI loss, and then returned to go 1-for-2 with three runs scored, a double and two walks in the decisive fourth game, a 6-2 Eagles’ win.

In addition to his efforts at the plate in the fourth game of the series on Sunday, Thieroff also collected the win on the mound, going eight-plus innings and allowing just one earned run.

On the year, Thieroff is hitting .346 with 26 RBIs, 24 runs, five doubles, five triples and four home runs. He is also 1-0 on the mound with a 3.06 ERA in four appearances.

The 25th-ranked Eagles (17-6) are 3-1 in the GLVC West Division and will host Kentucky State and Lewis this week.

Other top performers in GLVC last week included Drury’s Bret Gallion, Indianapolis’ Ben Sondgeroth, Kentucky Wesleyan’s Mike Finigan, Lewis’ Scott Householder, Northern Kentucky’s Pat Muth, Quincy’s A.J. Terill and Rockhurst’s Ryan Porter.
