Rockhurst University’s Arturo Baravalle (Cordoba, Argentina) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week. Baravalle, a sophomore for the Hawks, collected three wins in singles play and three wins in doubles action to help his team post three wins last week.
In Rockhurst’s 5-1 win over Midwestern State on Wednesday, Baravalle rallied for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over Vjekoslav Stipanic at No. 1 singles. He also teamed with Victor Klintcharov to top Midwestern State’s Tiago Vilarinho and Chip Threadgill in No. 2 doubles, 8-3.
Baravalle notched a win at No. 2 singles in Rockhurst’s 9-0 win over Quincy on Friday. He defeated the Hawks’ Alonzo Marroquin, 6-2, 6-0. In addition, Baravalle again teamed with Klintcharov at No. 2 doubles to claim an 8-4 win over Marroquin and Rodrigo Marroquin.
In Saturday’s 8-1 win over Missouri-St. Louis, Baravalle returned to No. 1 singles and defeated Andi Dimke, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. He and Klintcharov also collected a win at No. 2 singles by topping Daniel Anthony and Peter Hantack, 8-4
On the week, Baravalle was 2-0 at No. 1 singles, 1-0 at No. 2 singles and 3-0 at No. 2 doubles. He is 7-2 overall on the year in singles action and 8-0 in doubles.
Rockhurst (8-1) is 2-0 in the GLVC following the weekend’s victories and will visit Bellarmine on Friday. The Hawks are currently ranked third in the ITA Midwest Regional Poll.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Antonio Garcia-Santos, Indianapolis’ Taylor Broda, Lewis’ Uno Lapimaa and Southern Indiana’s Joseph Boesing.
