Saint Joseph’s College’s Sara Somogyi (Chicago, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week..

 

Somogyi, a senior pitcher for the Pumas, led her club to a 5-1 record last week by collecting four wins in the circle. On the week, Somogyi posted a 4-1 record with one save and did not allow a single earned run. She struck out 35 in six appearances and logged 30 innings during the week.

 

She picked up both wins in Saint Joseph’s sweep of Robert Morris on Tuesday, including a four-hit shutout in the day’s first game. She struck out seven in the first game, a 2-0 Pumas’ win, and allowed just one hit in three and one-third innings in the night cap, a 4-0 Saint Joseph’s victory.

 

On Thursday, Somogyi recorded her second of three shutouts on the week in a 9-0, five-inning decision over Goshen. She struck out nine and allowed just three hits. In the nightcap against Goshen, Somogyi notched a save by registering the final two outs of an 8-7 victory.

 

She pitched all 14 innings in Saint Joseph’s doubleheader split against Bellarmine on Saturday. Somogyi took the loss in game one, 3-0, despite allowing just three hits and striking out ten. She followed that effort with a five-hit complete game shutout in the nightcap. She struck out six in the 3-0 win.

 

On the year, Somogyi is 14-4 with a 1.74 ERA. She has struck out 151 batters in 121 innings this season.

 

Saint Joseph’s (17-11) is 6-4 in the GLVC and in fifth-place in the league standings.  The Pumas will face Huntington and Quincy this week.
