University of Southern Indiana’s Chad Werry (New Harmony, Ind.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week.

 

Werry, a senior outfielder for the Eagles, was instrumental in his team’s seven victories last week, delivering at the plate in each of the three series.

 

On the week, Werry batted .481 (13-27) with 10 runs, eight RBIs, three doubles and two home runs. He also stole two bases and posted 16 putouts playing flawlessly in the outfield.

 

In the Eagles sweep of Missouri-St. Louis on Monday, Werry was 4-for-8 with five RBIs and five runs scored. He was 2-for-4 in the opener with a pair of home runs, four RBIs and three runs scored.

 

He returned on Wednesday to go 4-for-6 in the doubleheader sweep of Northern Kentucky. In the nightcap, Werry was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, a double and run scored.

 

Werry, after going hitless on Friday, posted a 5-for-8 day at the plate in the Eagles’ doubleheader sweep at Lewis on Saturday. In the two games, he racked up four runs scored, a double and RBI.

 

This season, Werry is batting a team-best .393 with 33 runs, 30 RBIs, 14 doubles and five home runs. He is also slugging .664 and leads the league in total bases (81) and stolen bases (16).

 

Southern Indiana (25-8) is tied for first-place in the GLVC West Division at 6-2 and has won eight of its last nine games. The Eagles will travel to Bellarmine for a non-conference game on Tuesday before hosting a four-game series with GLVC West co-leader Rockhurst this weekend.

 

Other top performers in GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s John Lyons, Drury’s R.J. Knese, Indianapolis’ Adam Akin, Northern Kentucky’s Joe Mack, Rockhurst’s Mike Walczuk and Saint Joseph’s Sean Estand.
