Indianapolis, Ind. – The University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s Valerie Kelly (Norwalk, Wis./Brookwood) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. The junior runner was 12th overall at the Augustana Brissman-Lundeen Invitational on Sept. 22.
Her efforts helped pace the ninth-ranked Rangers to a third-place team finish at the 33-team event. UW-Parkside posted a score of 94, finishing behind the sixth-ranked Division I team from the University of Illinois and the second-ranked NAIA team from Olivet Nazarene.
Kelly completed the 6K course in a time of 21:55. The mark was a 1:08 improvement for her over the time she posted at the event in 2005.
She placed one second behind teammate Naomi Fulton at the meet. Their race times were just the fourth and fifth time in school-history a UW-Parkside runner has finished a 6K meet under 22:00.
The Rangers’ women’s cross country team will return to action on Oct. 7 at the Wartburg Invite in Waverly, Iowa.
