University of Missouri-St. Louis’ Allyson DeFosset (O’Fallon, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
DeFosset, a senior pitcher for the Tritons, helped her team to a 6-0 mark in conference action last week while setting several milestones.
On the week, DeFosset was 4-0 with one save and did not allow a run in 24 and two-thirds innings of work. She struck out 41 batters and surrendered just five hits in the five outings.
On Wednesday, DeFosset tossed her first career no-hitter in a 6-0 win over Missouri S&T. She recorded 14 strikeouts and walked just two in the stellar performance.
She returned on Saturday to post wins in each of UMSL’s two victories over Bellarmine. In the opening game of the doubleheader, DeFosset did not allow a hit and struck out seven in three innings of work. She threw five innings in the Tritons 3-0 win in the second game and again struck out seven, while allowing only one hit.
DeFosset closed the week with a complete-game, 10-strikeout performance in the Tritons’ 2-0 win over Northern Kentucky. She allowed just two hits and walked three. In the nightcap, a 2-0 win by UMSL, DeFosset picked up the save by going two and two-thirds innings and striking out three.
Her strong efforts on the week allowed DeFosset to become UMSL’s all-time career strikeout leader (433) in just two seasons and she broke her own single-season record for strikeouts with 217 on the year.
She is 17-3 overall this season with a 0.47 earned run average. In addition to the 217 strikeouts, DeFosset has allowed just 10 earned runs in 148 and two-thirds innings of work.
UMSL (30-13) is 14-2 in the GLVC this season and alone atop the league standings. The Tritons will travel to Central Missouri and Quincy this week.
